Persepolis

I just watched Persepolis for the first time last night, and the movie was absolutely gorgeous, poignant, moving, and unbelievably creative. It is based on the autobiographical graphic memoir of Marjane Satrapi, who grows up in Iran, witnessing the beginnings of the Iran/Iraq war, and is sent off to Europe by her parents to escape the effects of it. She returns to her country to find that everything she knew had changed, and struggles to find a place to fit in. It is animated film that is undeniably human. It’s definitely not for everyone, but it is a must see if you like a good independent or foreign flick.
